Role in Project

SiPHÀ will contribute to SOWISE+ as a technology provider for PHA production, building on its long-term experience in PHA production from organic waste using microbial mixed cultures, with particular reference to the H2020 RES URBIS project. It will collaborate closely with Contarina and UNIVE in WP1 and WP2, contributing to basic engineering, achievement of End-of-Waste status, plant construction and commissioning, start-up, optimisation and operation, process control and product quality. SiPHÀ will also support the parallel production activities using the RES URBIS pilot plant.

Organization Description

SiPHÀ is a start-up founded in March 2025 and an official spin-off of Sapienza University of Rome, created to scale up over 30 years of research on PHA production from microbial mixed cultures (MMC). Its technology enables PHA production through a fully continuous process, reducing process complexity and costs while valorising organic waste into high-value bioproducts.
