Role in Project

Contarina is the Coordinator of SOWISE+ and is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the project. It leads WP1 on permitting, engineering and design, WP2 on the construction, start-up and operation of the flagship plant, and WP8 on project management. Contarina will host the TRL8 flagship plant at its waste valorisation hub in Treviso, providing the industrial infrastructure, feedstocks and operational integration required for the biowaste-to-PHBV and AHP-to-cellulose value chains. It also contributes to all other work packages, supporting technical integration, stakeholder engagement, dissemination and the future replication of the SOWISE+ model.

Organization Description

Contarina S.p.A. is a waste management company operating in the Province of Treviso, Italy. It provides integrated waste management services to 49 municipalities and approximately 560,000 inhabitants through a highly developed door-to-door collection system based on pay-as-you-throw principles. The company manages facilities for organic waste treatment, composting, biomethane production and material recovery. Its key areas of expertise include circular waste management, source separation, biowaste treatment, industrial-scale demonstration and stakeholder engagement.
